What is this course about?

The Yoga of Sound Immersion is a 4-month online course for healers, therapists, musicians, meditators, singers, chanters, and teachers of Yoga, Tantra, Meditation, and Mantra.

In this course, students discover the scope of sacred sound for healing and enlightenment. The term “Yoga of Sound” is an umbrella for entire traditions of sacred sound that include four streams.

Through easy-to-learn video and audio tutorials, students learn the streams of sacred sound that developed in the Vedic, Tantric, and Bhakti traditions. A fourth stream, “Nada Yoga,” combines these three streams with sophistication.

The online program provides students with tutorials accessible 24/7 to sample, discover, and apply the various streams for therapeutic and artistic purposes at a foundational level.

Each stream is also a specialty that requires specialized training for skillful ability and application. Students wanting to develop far-reaching personal skills in any of the streams can choose their specialization after completing this 4-month immersion.

1) START WITH VEDIC MANTRAS

Vedic mantras are the quintessential mantras. However, pronunciation is quite essential in this stream of sacred sound. Therefore, all mantra and sound healing students should develop a proper knowledge of Vedic mantras, which, unfortunately, is not a strong point among many mantra practitioners.

The Vedic stream from the Yoga of Sound Immersion introduces several easy-to-learn mantras that help tap the spirit of Vedic chanting. Students also learn an authentic Vedic mantra practice that can be used for daily morning practice to tap the benefits of Vedic sound.

In addition to the core tutorials on Vedic mantras, there are bonus tutorials on the advantages of Vedic mantras that also introduce important aspects of Vedic chanting, such as pronunciation. So those students who wish to get started on pronunciation can get a feel for it here without feeling too pushed or challenged.

2) TANTRIC SOUND HEALING

In the Tantric stream of sound, students learn about Tantric sound healing at the foundational level. The core of Tantric sound healing is through bīja mantras (seed syllables). Students learn how bijas mantras are constructed. They will also learn the core bijas for the chakras and how to pronounce these syllables correctly.

Since Tantra involves mudras, students will learn mudras for each chakra. And they will also learn devata mantras (deity mantras) for each chakra. In this context, they will discover a way to construct Tantric mantras as the body of a deity in a way that simulates the human body.

A module on getting started with Tantric sound and sound healing shows how mudras combine with mantras in Tantra. The module features a mudra and mantra to remove fear.

Tantric sounds offer a powerful way to release repressed and reactive energies while at the same time offering powerful ways to infuse energy. We can, for instance, infuse energy into our chakras.

Finally, students also learn about primary sounds and their energy movement, which is helpful for therapists and Tantric practitioners new to sound yoga methods.

3) EXPANDED BHAKTI STREAM

Bhakti is devotion. Everybody associated the word "bhakti" with kirtan, a call-and-response song of mantras. However, there is a lot more to Bhakti in addition to kirtan that you can learn in this course.

In this stream, you learn six elements of devotion. The first is knowing the difference between Japa mantras and Archana mantras. This difference is quite significant since we are studying the Yoga of Sound from the Tantric perspective. Students will learn practices with each of these types of mantras for Bhakti.

Students will also learn the difference between kirtana and bhajana, how these two forms of musical vocal expression aid in the expression of Bhakti. An example from each of these forms will be taught.

Finally, students are introduced to Raga vidya and Rasa vidya. Ragas are musical scales. Rasa is feeling or sentiment. This is quite involved, so we will use just a few ragas to get started on this knowledge. Vidya means knowledge.

In this context, students will learn the difference between mantras and ślokas. ślokas are verses in praise. They are a quintessential form of Bhakti. And they are often expressed in ragas (musical modes).

The essence of Bhakti is beauty, which can be expressed through qualities of the voice, such as softness. Bhakti< however, can also be expressed through vocal music. For those who are musical, Bhakti can be developed through vocal music expression. On the other hand, those who are non-musical can cultivate their sense of Bhakti through speaking mantras.

4) SOPHISTICATED NADA YOGA

Nada Yoga literally means "sound yoga." We will begin with early forms of Nada Yoga that developed about 2000 years ago. Four practices are essential to learning for the authentic sense of Nada.

Shravana and Nadi Sodhana: Shravana is listening. And it involves learning to listen without thinking. Nadi Sodhana is a practice to purify the nadis, the psychic sound channels of the subtle body.

Shanmukhi and Brahamari: This practice, Shanmukhi, is a mudra practice associated with Nada Yoga's origins. Brahmari is a sounding practice related to the roots of Nada Yoga.

Those students who wish to advance in Nada Yoga will be able to learn two more components: Swara Vidya and Tala Vidya. Swara is the musical note (the Do, re, mi). Students learn how these mantric syllables can affect the kundalini shakti, central to Tantra.

Tala is rhythm. In the ancient Carnatic music of South India, the hands and fingers are used to keep time. By including this element, the whole body is brought into the music-making process, a Tantric practice.

Bonus content: Those who wish to gain a sense of advanced Nada Yoga practice will be able to view sample tutorials on how to combine all four streams of sacred sound, which is Nada Yoga Tantra.

Students begin this month by learning the relationship between the mantric syllables of the octave and the flow of Shakti. Then, various exercises teach how to enhance the kundalini experience flow in the chakras.

Students also discover how to combine the musical experience of note ascent and descent with mantra chanting, Nada Yoga Tantra: a compelling combination.

The essence of Nada is flow, which is what the word means, apart from sound, tone, river, and channel. In Nada Yoga Tantra, the classic yoga experience comes alive with Tantra.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Like most things, you need to taste before you can know!

Who can benefit from this program?

The Yoga of Sound is an online program designed to introduce several different groups to the scope of sound in yoga and healing.

* Yoga practioners and teachers of meditation and Tantra
* Healers, therapists, and energy medicine practitioners
* Musicians, kirtan singers and lovers of mantra

Of course, anyone interested in sound healing, Indian spirituality, and the therapeutic effects of sacred sound will find this course profoundly engaging.

The “scope” of sacred sound in the Yoga of Sound includes entire traditions of mantra, music, and sacred sound.

The Vedic tradition of sacred sound is the oldest and most formidable tradition of sacred sound and mantra. Vedic sound has specific rules.

The Tantric tradition of sacred sound is highly secretive and has its own particular approach, although it includes the Vedic and devotional.

The Bhakti, or devotional tradition of sacred sound includes kirtan, but it is also much more than kirtan. It is youngest of the sacred sound traditions.

Finally, there is Nada Yoga, (Sound Yoga), which was a strong influence on Patanjali. It develops around music and includes Tantric aspects.

The “scope” of sacred sound, therefore, involves thousands of years of development of sacred sound and it quite profound and powerful in its effects.

Any student of yoga, any healer, and any person interested in mantra and the spirituality of Indian music should study it.

However, the scope of sacred sound is so vast and so deep, it will take many lifetimes for anyone to grasp it in its entirety.

Our Yoga of Sound Immersion not only introduces the student to the scope of the sacred sound in Yoga, but offers teaching, training and practices.

For best learning, we recommend supplementing your online study with the book “The Yoga of Sound: Tapping The Hidden Power Of Music And Chant.”

What is the purpose of this program?

Each student, depending on their personal and professional interests, will have unique goals. Therefore, we recommend defining your purpose for study clearly.

For example, here are some of the objectives a student might have in taking this 4-month program:

Understand the four streams of sacred sound and learn how to combine them to affect consciousness for your spiritual and therapeutic purposes.

Discern the stream of sacred sound you need to develop further for your personal healing and the one you should specialize in for your professional needs.

Discover the healing power of mantra and the role of the various streams of sacred sound to enhance the healing process through their specific characteristics.

Learn fundamental ragas (musical scales) and vocal expressions of devotion (Bhakti). Use this knowledge to broaden your kirtan singing and leadership.

Get started on the Tantric vocabulary of bija mantras (seed syllables) and learn how to use them therapeutically with your clients.

Learn how sacred sound developed within and alongside the Yoga tradition. Use this knowledge to build authenticity as a yoga practitioner or teacher.

While some students may take on more ambitious goals of combining more than one objective, we caution that your goals are realistic for the 4-month program.

Students who would like a certificate of completion or a letter stating the number of hours they engaged in the program should click the "Mark Completed" button for each lesson they complete.

What does my enrollment offer me?

DAILY PRIVATE PRACTICE shows you how Nada Yoga can be used in daily practice. Features over thirty sessions of practice, one for each day of the month.

BONUS FOR KIRTAN SINGERS teaches guitar and vocal for mantra music expression. Features over fifty teaching videos.

MASTERY OF MANTRA WEBINARS features six full-length webinars introducing various aspects of the Mastery of Mantra.

How to approach the study process?

There are three ways to approach your study:

Intensely Paced: Complete the core curriculum of the four streams of sound in a single month by dedicating, for instance, four weekends for the purpose. Use the remaining three months to deepen your understanding and grow your practice with the bonus content.

Moderately Paced: Dedicate two weeks for each stream of the core curriculum completing it in two months. Use the remaining two months to deepen your understanding and grow your practice with the bonus content.

Leisurely Paced: Dedicate one month for each stream, tapping into the bonus curriculum for further understanding and inspiration.

The lessons group in modules. Students approach these modules based on their objectives. For instance, a yoga teacher might focus on the four workshops.

A student who is a kirtan singer might choose to focus on the modules about bhakti and music. A therapist may choose the therapeutic Tantric sounds.

Similarly, a mantra teacher might focus on the section on Vedic mantras while someone keen on Nada Yoga will want to learn how to combine all four streams.

Each student should decide on their particular focus with the realization that other students will have a different emphasis.

The Yoga of Sound is a broad umbrella that brings all the streams of sacred sound under one roof and in a way that reveals their relationships.

Specialization in any particular stream of sacred sound can follow as each stream of sacred sound is a specialty in itself for those who wish to develop expertise.

Yogic Mystery School is unique in that it specializes in all four streams of sacred sound, is capable of academic and technical aspects, and understands spiritual and psychological elements.

Since this is a beginner program, something of an induction into the study of sacred sound, Tantra, and mantra, students come to this process with varying backgrounds, understandings, and capabilities.

Students should not expect to develop expertise at this level. However, the program will reveal tremendous insight that students do not know but assume they know. The program's purpose is insights into the sound healing process and learning sound healing tools.

Your expertise and personal abilities can be further developed through the one-on-one process, so we offer private coaching. The personal coaching process takes the students from their current understanding to new skill levels and technical abilities.

Once students complete this program, they can develop their mantra pronunciation abilities if their interest is in Vedic mantras. Our Mastery of Mantra specializes in Vedic mantras. Vedic mantras are precise sounds that require specific tongue placements and the use of aspirated breathing for certain sounds. This level of precision cannot be taught in The Yoga of Sound as an umbrella for the various streams as it is a specialty in itself.

Some students may determine that they are not drawn towards mantra pronunciation but are more interested in sound healing through the Tantric approach. As a result, these students may progress towards The Mastery of Tantra, which teaches sound healing vocabulary through sound and touch. Students interested in this methodology enter into subtle-body practices related to the energy body.

The Yoga of Sound Immersion serves as a powerful introduction to the scope of sacred sound developed over many thousands of years in India. Upon completing it, students will understand what they know and what they do not know about sacred sound and healing. Crucial to the 4-month Immersion "Nada Yoga": the converging of the four streams to bear upon the nature of consciousness.
